Dear Kids
Recently, my sister and I watched the top ten commercials of 2011. One is a commercial for Google Chrome in which a father writes emails to his daughter chronicling her life milestones. It brought tears to our eyes and I decided it would be lovely to do something like this for my sister's kids.
However, when it came time to actually write to the kids, this is what I could think of to say:
Dear Aedan,
You are five years old and you are a pill.
Love, Auntie Crystan
Dear Willy,
You are three years old and you whine a lot. Seriously, dude. You whine a ton. Please stop.
Love, Auntie Crystan
Dear Finnegan,
You are seven months old. It's time to start sleeping through the night. For the love of ***, PLEASE start sleeping through the night. We're tired.
Love, Auntie Crystan
Perhaps I should try again when I'm feeling a bit more rested.

More Letters
Auntie Genevieve (a good friend of Traci and mine) was inspired by the letters above and decided to write her own. They are so spot on I had to share them:
Dear Aedan,
Oh, my goodness. You are NOT the star of an animated children's show.
Sincerely,
Auntie Genevieve
Dear Willy,
I can't wait until you learn what the phrase "first world problems" means.
Sincerely,
Auntie Genevieve
Dear Finn,
You're a baby and I don't have to wake with you, so currently you're perfect; but I hear you have your mom's 'sleep is for suckers' gene. Please change that.
Sincerely,
Auntie Genevieve
Do you have letters you'd like to share? I'd love to see them! <3

Dear Caretaker
The story below is not a letter to the children, but a letter to the children's caretakers...just to mix things up!
While Traci is undergoing treatment, Aedan and Will are staying with Auntie Jean while Finnegan is staying with Aunt Micky. It's always tough to take children back into your home after your own kids have grown up and started to fly away from the nest. This was recently demonstrated by Aunt Micky as she asked her sister for some advice to soothe a crying infant.
Jean was quick to respond, "Dear Silence is Golden Daycare..." and went on to advise Aunt Micky on things like freezing blueberries for Finn to gnaw.
Micky, ever grateful, couldn't resist signing her response, "Thank you from Love You As You Are In Spite of Yourself Daycare. I'll put the teething rings in the freezer and get out the sleeping pills for myself."
I'm convinced there's nothing better than the love shared between sisters.
