What do you wish for when you see the first star of the night? (WAIT, don't tell me. It won't come true.)
As I tried to plan for the summer, I had a great vacation on the books. In June, the Spencer clan was supposed to descend upon sunny California to explore Legoland and Disneyland. Unfortunately, that is no longer happening in June. It turns out, treating metastatic cancer is expensive and doesn't leave a lot of money left over for family vacations.
I sat contemplating this and realized there *must* be a way to get some help to fund such a delightful memory. I am familiar with the "Make-a-Wish Foundation." After all, I've raised money to support their cause on multiple occasions! Surely, there is something similar for adults!
After much research, I discovered that wish-granting organizations for adults is a non-profit niche that is sadly neglected. I managed to find a handful of charities that claim to cater to adults with terminal illnesses, but after reading the fine print, I discovered that Traci and her family only potentially qualify for two.
I decided to move forward and start the application process in case she is selected as I know that a trip to Disney World or Disneyland would boost the whole family's morale tremendously. I also decided to reach out to Ellen Degeneres as well because, let's face it, she's awesome.
Rather than just sitting around and holding my breath for one of these opportunities to pull through, I am also reaching out to my friends. So here is my plea:
If you have unused airline miles you would be willing to donate to my family to allow my sister to fulfill a promise to her six year old daughter and go to Disney, please...please consider transferring or donating them to my family.
I plan on buying the theme park tickets and will help arrange for a place to stay, but I need help. I need help with the plane tickets. In the end, I will need tickets for four adults and two children (Finn is still small enough to be a lap baby), so six tickets. This will allow my parents to help Traci and Andy with the kids while they are at the park.
Please, if you or someone you know has extra airline miles...please consider making a donation to a very worthy and tremendous family. My sister and her family deserve this memory. They deserve happiness.
Thank you.
